Painted ponies – The Trail of Painted Ponies, often simply called “Painted Ponies” is a line of model horses considered highly collectible. Unlike Breyer or Peter Stone model horses, Painted Ponies models do strive not realistically depict horses, but uses the figure of a horse as a canvas for artistic ideas. There is also a large catalog of other goods, such as books, jewelry and clothing based on Painted Ponies
Painted Ponies were partly inspired by the Cow Parade, a series of 50 life-size cow sculptures all painted or modified insane by 50 different artists. Having toured America in 1999, all the 50 cows auctioned off for charity. Cow Parade has since done other tours in many countries. The Trail of Painted Ponies began in 2000 with life-size models of horses painted insane by various artists, was auctioned off for charity. Selling less collectible models started in 2003.

Types painted ponies offers many different sizes of resin or ceramic model horses. Although life-size models are still painted, given a tour and then auctioned for charity, most model horse collectors not afford to horse-sized models. They can pay for the smaller resin models between 6 and 10 inches high. There are Christmas tree ornaments based on models that are only 2 to 3 inches tall and comes in separate boxes.
